« Prev | Next » Kernel Memory Leak when simulation is initialized on ClearCase dynamic view Description When you run your simulation in Active-HDL directly on IBM Rational ClearCase dynamic view (MVFS drive), you may observe a Kernel memory leak followed by the blue screen or system crash. When the simulation is initialized, the asdb file is created and placed in the ClearCase dynamic view. After that, regardless of whether the simulation is progressing or stays still, you can observe how the overall Physical Memory starts growing in the Task Manager or in the Process Explorer. If you are using Process Explorer, you will see that it is the Kernel memory that is growing. Kernel memory is a system memory that is not assigned to any of the processes. Physical/Kernel memory allocation grows quite rapidly resulting in a system crash. This issue is a known ClearCase product defect currently described in the following link: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21422708 Solution To resolve this issue, follow the instructions below: Under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mvfs\Parameters, add the value MvfsViewAttachMup of type REG_DWORD and assign it a value of 1. Reboot your machine NOTE: Generally, it is not optimal to run your simulation directly on ClearCase dynamic view, because it has slower IO performance than your local disk.
